After the grinding, there is edge breakage or corner chipping for the glass, it not only affect the glass appearance, but also affect the security for the glass in the application. Followed are the major reasons that caused the glass edge breakage or corner chipping.

First, the grinding stock of the glass is too big, and the grinding speed is too fast. If grind too much edges, the glass compressive stress structure is weakened, then the edges is easily to be broken. Too fast grinding speed will also change the compressive stress structure, and cause this problem.

Second, the water is not enough. Enough water in the grinding process could help to lower the temperature which is from the grinding process. If the water is nor enough, the grinding temperature will be higher, then the glass edges is likely to be broken.

Third, the grinding stock in nonuniform distributed. The grinding stock is big sometimes and then little, this will cause the grinding edges with different grinding stock and lead to the edge breakage.

Forth, the grinding wheels is not sharp. The waterpipe is blocked and the water temperature is too high, the clamp plate is worn-out, all will cause the glass edge breakage or corner chipping.

Fifth, there is stone or bubbles on the float glass. Especially the stones on the float glass, it is easily broken in the heating process. If to grind the glass with stone or bubbles, the glass will have the edge breakage or corner chipping.

Sixth, there is covert fissure on the glass before grinding, but the workers don’t found it.

Except to check the glass well before grinding, to adjust the uniform grinding stock and to add  enough water before grinding, to lower the grinding speed moderately, all are the good solutions to solve the problem.
